If you thought that all riders came from sunny and windy resorts, think again ... Charles comes from the the Forêt d’Orient lake, an inner lake in the Northeastern France. He first tried several sports until he got struck by the funboard virus as he was 12. When he turned 18, he moved to Hyeres, a windy and sunny resort in the South of France (!) to begin his professional funboarder career. And he did well, for he won two World Champion Youth titles and also became France Champion Youth. In 2000, he had his first experience in kitesurfing, and would sail, everynow and then ... He quickly became passionate, and kitesurfing gradually took over from funboarding. In the end, he became so fond of it that he decided to give up his first passion, and got 200% involved in the kitesurf. In 2001 he had totally given up windsurf, but with his background as a shaper, Charles would not sail any other boards than his, he then began to design and shape his own boards, and made them evolve with his sailing and performance. This seemed to be working, all this merging with an intensive training programme, his level knew a great and fast rise up. In 2002, results began to show up, he enters the North International team, then the Fanatic’s. He ends the year 2002 as 2nd overall KPWT... This was a little summary of Charly’s beginnings, nothing worth writing a novel about!! |
